The Time We Made A Rookie Mistake At ACL

roadtrips, stories, travel

Once upon a time, my favorite girlfriends Ashley, Holland, Ashley, and I took an ultimate road trip from our college town of Norman, Oklahoma to Austin, Texas (with one stop in Waco, because, duh, Magnolia Market) to go to the Austin City Limits Music Festival. We were extra excited. We hadn’t gone on a trip together before and knew we were about to have one of the most fun weekends ever! We arrived in Austin on the Friday of the festival, and moments after we dropped our bags we walked to Zilker Park to get a little taste of our full weekend of music that was to come. We looked...

Travel Diary: New York City

travel, travel diaries

¡Hola, amigos míos! Long time, no see. Sophomore year was a whirlwind, but I am so happy to jump back into blogging my mini-adventures for you guys. In April, I went with my family to New York City. We spent a full weekend there with my grandma and cousin, eating lots of yummy food, touring Manhattan on the hop-on hop-off busses, and saw some great theatre. Personally, this trip marked my eighth trip to my favorite city in the world, but seeing as this was my cousin and grandma’s first real trip here, we went full tourist-mode. I didn’t get to stop by any of my NYC wishlist places, but...

Luxembourg Needs More Hype

personal, pictures, study abroad, travel

I didn’t spend a lot of time in Luxembourg, but I definitely wish I could have stayed longer! My study abroad group stayed in Luxembourg City for two days and one night before traveling into France. Luxembourg is a small country that sits right in the middle of Belgium, Germany, and France. It’s really, really interesting – there is such a fun mix of culture in this little country. They have their own royal family that you can buy postcards, bags, and toy dolls of in literally every souvenir store. It’s pretty cute. Luxembourgers speak a mix of French, German, and Luxembourgish. Luxembourg is a very wealthy place – just a warning. I paid like...

Brussels, Belgium in Photos

personal, pictures, study abroad, tips, travel

Guys, I think I found my new favorite city. Brussels has my heart. The streets are clean, crisp, bright, and classic. I’m into it. We visited shortly after the Brussels attacks- we even walked past the train platform that was involved. Although Brussels suffered an incredible loss recently, I felt very safe. I feel like that means something. As for the ambiance, the streets were not too crowded and the people were very friendly. My kind of big city! Here’s the highlight reel.     On top of being downright perfect, Belgium is super silly. Like, guys, you should hear Belgian police sirens. We couldn’t help but giggle when we heard...

Art Hopping in Munich, Germany

personal, study abroad, tips, travel

The city of Munich, Germany is well known for tons of reasons – culture, business, shopping, the glockenspiel, and so much more! When I spent my four days in Munich, I really focused on hitting art museums! If you want to seriously up your art game, put these museums on your bucket list! The Lenbachhaus The Lenbachhaus has tons of different pieces, from contemporary in-your-face art to the classics, like The Blue Rider by Franz Marc. Visit this place if you want to feel ~groovy~ and ~artsy~! Time to get through it: 3 hours. Eat dinner in the museum’s restaurant! Neue Pinakothek An accurate description: Wow, look, a Monet! Woah, is that a Van Gogh? Cool!...

Jewel Studies Abroad: Nuremberg, Germany

personal, pictures, study abroad, travel

With a town as historical as this one, you can’t help but step back in interest. Nuremberg was pretty intwined with the Nazi regime. There were marching grounds and an unfinished stadium that was supposed to be completed after World War Two – of course, history played out differently, thank goodness. (; I enjoyed getting to learn about all the history encased in this (somewhat) small town in Germany last week. Nuremberg, Germany was the first town we hit for the first leg of our study abroad trip. The second we arrived, we were jet lagged and feeling gross. In order to keep up the pace and force-adjust ourselves to the...

Roadtripping to Magnolia Market

pictures, roadtrips, stories, travel

Wow, hello everyone! Happy summer! Let me start by saying I have such an affinity towards road trips. I love making driving playlists, stopping at roadside attractions, and even making gas station stops. Yesterday, I went on a road trip to Magnolia Market in Waco, Texas! Before I say any more, let me give you a little back story. Magnolia Market has gained quite a lot of attention recently due to a little show on HGTV called Fixer Upper. Fixer Upper stars Chip and Joanna Gaines, a couple who fixes up the cutest homes for a different family each episode! They are based in Waco, Texas – and have a giant market...

#TBT: My Trip to Mykonos, Greece

#TBT, pictures, tips, travel

After a few days in Athens, the Porters packed up and boarded a plane to Mykonos! We were excited to lay out by the beach and swim in the Agean sea. I was especially pumped because of my previously mentioned love for the Kardashians and how they had just vacationed here. When I thought of Mykonos, I remembered how beautiful it looked through the lens of their Instagram posts. I was in love with Mykonos and wish I could have stayed longer. Mykonos is just as beautiful as you would imagine. Here are two of my favorite things we did during our time on the island! Totally Beachin’ We had...

Gracie Abroad: 5 Tips for a Long Layover

collaboration, gracie abroad, personal, tips, travel

Today, I have a guest post from someone special – my sister, Gracie! She has such a heart for missions and recently hit up the Czech Republic for a mission trip with her high school. I asked her if she wanted to do a blog post, and she instantly had an idea! On her way to the CR, she had a crazy long layover. Here’s how she handled it – like a pro! Enjoy, friends! xoxo, Jewel This year I went to Czech Republic for a mission trip, which started with a 12 hour flight to Frankfurt. However, because of this extra long flight we were given 6 hours to stretch our...
