#TBT: My Trip to Athens, Greece

#TBT, tips, travel

My senior trip was directly inspired by The Kardashians, and I am not ashamed to admit it. In July 2013, the Kardashian family yachted around Mykonos and Santorini for a week. I instantly became charmed by the idea and began talking it up to my mom. Although I didn’t score the ultimate yachting experience, I wasn’t complaining! My family and I started our trip in Athens – islands to follow later! Athens is a beautiful and historic city. It is rich in monuments, delicious food, and amazingly friendly people. I think Greek people are some of the most welcoming. Here are four things I loved about Athens! The Scenery Walking down...

My College Travel Bucket List

personal, travel

In the midst of midterms, I’m currently dreaming of next week when I’ll spending Spring Break at home. In a few days, I’ll be listening to The 1975’s album on vinyl, hiking around Fort Worth, and blogging my little heart out. Until then, however, one post a week will have to suffice. I miss you! All this talk of Spring Break, who is going where, and what people are planning on doing is giving me wanderlust! I am not a South Padre Island type of girl, but here are five fun trips I want to take while in college – whether it be over Spring Break, Summer Break, or a long weekend....

Traveling in Small Groups vs Large Groups

travel, VS

I’ve had some experience traveling in both small and large group settings. I’ve been on big mission trips, and I’ve also had basically private day trips due to underbooking. Here are some pros and cons for the next time you’re considering joining a tour group or flying solo! SMALL GROUPS pro: You might be with your family. con: Sometimes traveling with family can be a little stressful, especially because people may not know what they’re doing. pro: You might be by yourself. con: Who’s going to be your personal photographer? Note to self: may want to invest in a selfie stick. pro: Other people who travel alone seem to have constant...

Spring Vibing: A Playlist

music, personal

Hi everyone! With this warm weather around us, I’m dreaming of lush green grass, hiking, and all the goodness that comes with spring! To help you get in the spirit, I made a little Spotify playlist. Here are some songs I’m loving recently, as well as some songs to casually inspire your wanderlust. I’ll pop it in the sidebar soon. Maybe I’ll get started on a summer playlist. (; Happy Thursday! xoxo, Jewel...

Liebster Award & Nominations

collaboration, personal

Jewel Abroad has been nominated for a Liebster (autocorrect: lobster) award! This means someone in the blogging community thinks what we have going on over here is worth some attention. It’s almost like chain mail, but the purpose isn’t into scaring you into tagging twelve friends out of fear for bad luck – it’s meant to help people grow their blog! Thank you, Wonderluhst, for my nomination! I totally accept. When you’re nominated for a Liebster, you have to answer some questions from the person who nominated you. Here are Anne’s questions! 1. How many countries have you visited? And on which continents have you been? I have been to nine countries, including...

A Traveler’s Favorite Quote

collaboration, personal, quotes, travel

Happy Tuesday, friends! I have recently come into contact with some really, really great travelers. I decided to poll all of my new friends by asking what their favorite travel quotes are, and what they mean to them. I love collaboration posts because they seem to bring a new energy into the blog the post is on, you know? And, come on. Who doesn’t love travel quotes? Travel quotes inspire adventurers in ways you can’t explain. Anyways, here are some quality travel bloggers – read their quotes! If you like them, venture over to their blog (or instagram) by clicking their picture.   GABI – @GABI_NIV ON INSTA My heart wants roots....

#TBT: My Trip to Rome, Italy

#TBT, travel

We have officially reached the last leg of my european vacation in the summer of 2014. My family and I went to Rome for one final ‘hoorah’ to celebrate my parents’ 20th wedding anniversary. Rome is one of those places I genuinely think a person needs to see at least once in their lifetime. Not only is the Italian culture friendly and beautiful, but it is also rich in history and fruitful in love for everything around it. I regret not visiting Verona, or Capri, or Venice… I guess that means I just have more on my list, and more of a reason to go back! Here are some highlights from...

Girls Who Travel are Better

personal, travel

When you date a traveler, you quickly realize life can be a little different from what you maybe first expected. This upcoming Valentine’s Day has helped me come to realize I throw my boyfriend a thousand different directions with my restlessness. I’m girl who constantly entertains my ideas of travel and I’ve decided that girls who travel are better. I’ve consulted with some of my travel-minded friends and we’ve compiled some reasons why: 1. She isn’t boring. Explorers will always have something to talk about because they’ve seen a lot. She can tell you endless stories about that one time she swam with sharks, or when she tried pizza in Italy for the first time....

Movies That Make Me Want to Travel Endlessly

movies, personal, tips

Sometimes, when I can’t get out, or when it’s a snowy or rainy day, I decide to stay in and watch movies. What kind of movies, you ask? Well, dear reader, I watch movies that inspire me! Recently I’m dreaming of getting out of Norman, OK and traveling abroad. Here are some movies that keep me dreaming! 1. The Secret Life of Walter Mitty This is a crowd-pleasing, adventurous love story about a man who wants to make the most out of life. Bonus: this is on Netflix! There is literally no reason not to order this movie this moment! (; Also, most people don’t know how to feel about Kristen...
